I swim, but wish that there were more times for lap swimmers.
Also I’d like excercise class in the morning for half hour increment instead of full hour. So I can work out, clean up in an hour and get to work on time.

The Decatur Y is my home away from home! Everyone from the front desk to the membership desk to the instructors to the other members is super friendly and warm. The classes are varied and offer different vibes depending on instructor. It doesn't get any better than Safiyah, Alfred, Jan, Jennifer, Lucky, Lloyd, Cyndi, Sudie, and Lisa . It would be challenging to find a bad teacher at DDY.
My grandson took swimming from Gene and in 6 weeks time he learned how to swim!
The only negative I can think of are logistics. There should be a single bathroom and water fountain outside of the main exercise class room.

The Decatur YMCA offers a great variety of classes and programs at an affordable price. The exercise and weight room is nice and has lots of machine options. The best thing about the Decatur YMCA is the wonderful variety of people in the YMCA community. You will find all ages, genders, nationalities, ethnicities, and abilities represented at the Y. Everyone is welcomed with open arms!

Upstairs workout room is so much nicer after renovation. I moved to College Park and still come to the decatur y because it’s so much nicer and there’s not a good YMCA near College Park.
We use exercise and pool facilities regularly. Appreciate programs for children , especially in summer

The staff is knowledgeable and nice.
I like the friendly and laid-back atmosphere. I like the number of group classes offered, the variety of classes, and the intensity of the classes. I like there are a significant number of cardio machines so I rarely have to wait.
Exercise classes
While I enjoy the workout area, the great staff (Ruth is awesome!) I must tell you that the steam room and pool area need some attention. I think the problems with folks putting aromatherapy stuff in the steam outlet and playing music have been addressed there still is not the level of supervision of the steam room that is necessary. A staff person should take a look in there fairly regularly. I am in there very often and don’t see that ever. The other issue is benches around the pool. When you leave the steam room, it would be nice to sit and cool off. Unfortunately, parents and staff use the benches like lockers and they are constantly piled up with personal items. Several additional benches by the pool and whirlpool would address this. I’ve made this suggestion numerous times with no reaction.
The variety of classes, exercise machines and activities. The family-friendly atmosphere. The play center for babies.
The Y has something for everyone and it is very accessible. My husband and I have been going for over 20 years and can't imagine not being a part of the Y.

Absolutely love the yoga classes and instructors!
Lots of classes to choose from...have enjoyed group cycle and Zumba. Also appreciated the health coach guiding me through the equipment and setting up an exercise routine for me on my first visit - with the guide in the folder with equipment settings, etc. when I need it.
