Member Testimonials
Your programs are given at times that are very accommodating.
Variety of classes, available hours, different levels for beginners and athletes, good equipment, indoor swimming pool, coaching, nutritional training, clean facility and friendly staff. Very comprehensive wellness program in a welcoming environment.
The programs and activities are age appropriate and are available to fit the varied schedules of the members. I like the variety of programs and activities, including health screenings and Farmers markets on site.
The customer service and support your staff gives. You are not judged by your looks or condition. You are looked at ad a YMCA participant.
Lots of options, friendly environment
Friendly and helpful employees, exercise programming/variety and schedule, quality of group fitness instructors, and the (always) cleanliness of the facility. There is nothing to be displeased or unhappy about at this Y!
Many and varied programs, diversity of membership, friendly staff.
The group classes! Zumba and strength training classes, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, the diversity in people at the Y, the programs for the community, the cleanliness of the building!!!
The Decatur and East Lake Y’s are wonderful!!
cant type much but i like care shown by staff and the all inclusive attitude toward programming
I love the exercise classes. Most of the instructors I've had are outstanding and very personable - they remember names, convey a sense of fun, etc. The same is true of the woman who helped me get started on a weight routine. Jan still encourages me every time I see her. I experience a strong sense of community at the Decatur YMCA. I recently participated in a volunteer event and enjoyed meeting other volunteers. Even the folks at the front desk are wonderful - they always remember my name. Now, that's really something!
Gymnastics for my girls, child care is nice, so I can get my workout in.
Great facilities convenient location
Water aerobics. Senior low impact classes. Friendly front desk and staff. Cleanliness. Hours. Good communications.
Facility is clean, well - maintained, and rarely too crowded. The towels and water dispenser are nice touches. Wish there were 8:30 PM classes.
Variety of classes!
I like your classes and instructors
Staff is really helpful, great fitness facilities and programs
I love Zumba Gold, the friendly instructors and staff. Classes are fun while getting a good workout.
I love that I can come in and take a variety of classes, almost whenever. Great teachers -- super friendly! I haven't used the pool, and used the weight room and gym once (both fine). I like that you have community events (though I haven't participated in any yet). The desk staff/registration staff is almost always friendly. Everything is clean.
My one suggestion would be to have even more classes -- particularly during later hours and on Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes the day goes by and I missed my opportunity to participate due to work schedule (and I am not a morning exerciser).
Also -- I wish I had been participating sooner! So, yes, I would recommend.
soccer program
I love the aquatic program at the Y. I’ve been doing water aerobics there for years, and I enjoy the variety of classes offered. In addition to traditional water aerobics, I can take Aqua Zumba and Aqua Pilates. Everything is better in the pool!
I have been a YMCA member at the Decatur branch since my kids were little (they are now 20, 24). The play center offered me a necessary respite from caring from them, really offered me sanity when I was feeling most crazy managing them at home. I'd get to come in and do a hard workout spin class or other boot camp type workout, knowing the folks could handle my girls while I took some time. Now, both my girls attend regularly. They are in the Special Olympics program which is now expanding to include more sports. They work out on their own with a caregiver-trainer. They use the YMCA as a work-out stop-over in between scheduled activities. Staff and members at the YMCA know me and my girls. it feels like community. And, I still use the Y to swim regularly. I come on my own and do my own workout. My girls also come on their own. They participate in social activities sometime with Happy Club, especially the dances. Lately, we have been granted a scholarship which helps us so much to be able to do more activities and continue attending the Y. Most recently, I was in NYC for work and visited the local Manhattan YMCA. I had forgotten my card at home so the front desk had to call to my Decatur home Y to assure my membership. Antoinette answered the phone and I told the NYC front desk gal to tell her it was Mae and Lena's mom. Of course, she knew who that was. I feel so proud of our Y, the way it has grown and prospered, the way it has supported me and my family, and the way it continues to give, even when I'm away from home. Thanks y'all. You have saved my sanity many times, and continue to do so, over and over.
P.S. My only wish is that my oldest daughter Mae, could become a front desk assistant. She is so friendly and loving and has begun working and volunteering in the community. It would boost her self-confidence to be a Y volunteer and it seems a natural fit. She has a job coach who could help accompany her in training and monitor her, maybe even lead to a paid job at the Y.
My family and I are sporadic users of our membership but our 10-year old participates in gymnastics program, which we think is very well organized and good.
Options and relaxed atmosphere
Frequency of classes... and many different classes
Excellent variety and instructors
We are thrilled with the Y's gymnastics program--we love the combination of top-tier training with a warm and low-key environment. It is rare to find a gym that holds gymnasts to high standards with genuine care for their well-being and development (with impressive results--we've been amazed at the number of medals that the team has brought home from state and national meets).
There’s something for everyone!
Love the 6:30 Tuesday and Friday class with Lisa Kiely

The diversity and times of the group classes. The cleanliness of the facility.
