Class variety!
I only ever really use the swimming facility, and I must say the lifeguards take care of it really well. There's one lifeguard in particular named Caedmon who really stands out. He does well at his job and when he's not guarding, he's really helpful to anyone who seems to need it. He puts in the extra effort and it does not go unappreciated.
I love the classes and variety of machines available.

Everything...very pleased

This is our 3rd consecutive swim session this spring/summer (1 session last summer) and have been absolutely satisfied with the program at Platte County South YMCA as well as the instructors. When classes were full for Water Stamina, we had to take classes at the NKC YMCA and HATED that experience. The teachers had pre-planned vacations, so each class during the entire session had a different instructor teaching a different skill. My son actually regressed in his skills and toward the end, was scared to put his head under water. Whaaaaat?! I was pretty frustrated because I had signed up for another Water Stamina session in NKC because classes at Platte County South were full, but they were able to transfer me back to South and his confidence came back after just the first class!
He's had to repeat Water Stamina 2x now after the big fail at NKC YMCA (and we're totally fine with repeating a 3rd or 4th time to pass), but his skills and confidence have improved so much thanks to the trained teachers at Platte County South.
I want to also add that Sue Ellen (I think that's her name) subbed one evening and I thought the kids would have a harder time listening because of the age difference from their usual teacher, but they LOVED her and were disappointed when they asked if she would come back the next day and she said she couldn't. Their usual teacher was great, but Sue Ellen had something special in the way she taught and interacted with the kids that encouraged them to be bold and swim harder. She's a top-notch swim instructor! (She did not pay me to write this review. LOL)
And now to the bad part of this review. There's a sign at the front entrance that says to enter the pool through the locker rooms. As a mom to a 5-year-old boy, I can't let him walk through the men's locker room alone; but I also don't like having him walk through the women's locker room because there are half-naked women walking around. I just don't understand this when other pools have direct access to their pool through family changing rooms. But I don't like walking through the pool door by the front entrance either because my kids who can read see that mom is breaking the rules. Kind of a hard situation, you think? Anyway, just a suggestion to maybe update the words on the sign since you can't break down walls and create direct access to the pool from the family changing rooms.
