The inspector falsified having checked the gas range/oven in the home. Upon moving in, it was not working and I saw it was disconnected. Called the inspector, he assured me it had worked just fine during the inspection 1 week earlier. Contacted my agent who contacted the seller and found out that, in fact, that appliance was placed in the home about 8 months earlier and had never been connected. Because I didn't know this until too late, I was left without a working stove for several days. My agent was courteous enough to cover the expense of having a gas fitter connect the appliance. Also, knowing that the inspector did not test the appliance and did not own up to this fact on the phone gives me a lack of confidence in what else may have been missed or falsely reported in the inspection report. Mistakes happen and that's ok, but when a mistake is made, a professional should acknowledge and seek to correct it as soon as possible.
