A variety of activities but do not have a dedicated mens room on the main floor.
Your teaches are the best and the community is beyond wonderful.
I like a clean, friendly facility. Central Y is that
I have been participating in the arthritis water exercise class for three years. The instructor is Pat Wolfe. The class has helped me exercise my whole body. I can run, move and flex in the water. I appreciate the family atmosphere Pat has created in the decades she has taught this class. It’s my home three times a week!
Helpful staff, variety of exercise options, extended hours, weekend hours.
Trainers are highly knowledgeable about the needs of the senior population and provide very accommodating exercises for our needs. They are highest caliber professionals and really work to learn and use our names.
I like the mix of ages and people from all walks of life.
I love the flexibility and number of classes that you offer for group fitness. The instructors are really nice and the people that come are as well.
My wife (Delva) and I began going to the 'Y' in 2002, right after I retired from 40 years of teaching. My wife had a number of health issues related to polio and respiratory weakness (and more recently, congestive heart failure). Her doctor recommended that she get low impact exercise to improve her mobility and range of motion, particularly for her arthritic finger joints. We decided to try the stretching water exercises at the 'Y'. That's when we fell in love with Pat! The water activities were just what she needed... and she really enjoyed the social aspects also. I would jog in place while doing the stretching exercises in order to reach my aerobic rate. The last several years Delva was not able attend due to caution because her lungs were getting too weak and she did not want to catch any respiratory "bugs." She died of congestive heart failure on November 12, 2024. I've started back to Pat's class now and continue to jog during the stretching exercises...but I look over at Delva's favorite corner in the shallow end (she was only 4' 11") and tear up a little, not seeing her there, chatting away with someone.
community and instructors
I’ve been a member for several years before the pandemic and a couple years after the pandemic eased. I like that the Y is not fancy. I don’t feel out of place by being older. The emphasis in group fitness is on community and fun. I do wish there were more options for dance-based exercise. Zumba is OK, but I would love to see something like Jazzercise (with its weights and more rigorously trained instructors), ballet, jazz dance, etc.
The facility is always clean and well-maintained, and staffed by helpful friendly people.
Love the classes and the STAFF best of ALL. Truly a good group of people.
I enjoy being in the water, doing exercises that improve my flexibility. The camaraderie is wonderful.
Close to my home. Multi-racial, multi-class, multi-generational YMCA members. Renew Active through United Healthcare.
Friendly staff, excellent teachers
Wi Go g & tai chi classes
I loved the pickleball group and especially the ability to play indoors yesterday. It was a very welcoming group.
The people the staff. It feels like a community
Friendly trainers and instructors. Friendly members, sense of camaraderie. Great workout and group exercise variety.
Friendly; good variety of classes; capable instructors
I appreciate the pickleball program- specifically the classes with Scott and the use of the gym for indoor play.
Everything.
I've been going to Superior California YMCA since 2003 and it's a pretty good Y.
Good equipment, although there is way too much equipment in the Cardio room.
My husband swims, and says they have A+ life guards.
The one ongoing disappointment for me is the staff at the front desk.
Maybe they're good problem solvers, but NO ONE LOOKS UP WHEN PEOPLE ENTER.
NO ONE.
NO ONE at the front desk ever SMILES when a member arrives.
THES ARE THE GROUCHIEST, MOST UNFRIENDLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE EVER WORKED THERE.
Is this the IMAGE the Y should have?
UNFRIENDLY when ENTERING????
Front desk staff seem seriously untrained and seriously unsupervised.
Today there were two young children in the Cardio room running around, jumping from equipment to equipment while their mom used the cross trainer for 45 minutes.
IS ANYBODY SUPERVISING ANYTHING AT THE Y?
Doesn't seem to be.
Positives -
- staff is friendly
- great schedule and hours
- positive atmosphere
- plenty of classes

Friendly staff, clean facilities and equipment, variety of services offered, convenient location.
There is a wide variety of activities in which to participate.
The Sac Central YMCA is a haven for positivity and connection, even as we all strive to help our bodies be more flexible, stronger and adaptive. Your staff are kind and will go out of their way to help members who need extra help, and they are always focused on safety with a smile. The YMCA has been a bright light for in a crappy year, helping me focus on what I can control. Thank you and all YMCA staff for being there for the community.
The hours are perfect for my schedule. The gym has all the weights I need. And the pool is a great bonus and the only one in the area.

It’s a friendly well run gym with important community connections.
