We are one of the lucky Beech Mountain residents to have a generator. When hurricane Helene hit us last week and power was lost the only thing that has kept our lights on has been the gas supplied by Freeman (Superior Gas).
After running the generator for two days, our tank was down to less than 20% capacity, we were nearing a disastrous situation. By chance, I came across a Freeman delivery truck making an emergency stop at a residence at the top of the mountain. I walked over, told them my situation and asked if they could make a delivery to my house.
The driver wrote my address on the back of his hand, told me he would call the office and see if he could do an extra delivery. He didn't think so, but he would try. He said he would know within the hour if he was allowed. Forty-five minute later the truck was at our door delivering fuel for our generator.
I cannot express adequately enough how grateful we are for both the delivery crew and Freeman Gas for going above and beyond to help a customer in need. We have been a Freeman customer for over 20 years, and surely will be for the rest of our lives.
It was just a couple days after hurricane Helene hit our small town of Boone, North Carolina, that we realized our home’s Gen X generator for the house electric appliances was burning through the last of its propane. My husband and I drove down the mountain where Freeman Gas was located at the foot of Seven Devils. The 105 had been flooded, most of the businesses along the street had damage . Of course, Friedman Gas was closed. I was prepared to read a little sign, hung on the door, that they would open by the end of next month, but instead it had its regular operational hours. When you’ve gone through bad Weather, Be it a hurricane or tornado or major flood, or any combination of those three-You begin to think the Almighty has it in for you. You began to doubt that anything good will ever happen again. I got back to our car and explained to my husband that they take Mondays off, so they can worked on Saturdays. Suddenly, a white pick up truck pulled in, and there was a man getting out who looked very official, Talking on the phone to another client and shaking out his keys to open up the front door. “Excuse me, sir,” I said, “Is there anyway chance we can get some propane for our generator? He looked up at me and said, “ are you our client?”
“Yes, sir, we are.” I didn’t tell him We already gotten the depressing news that our neighborhood
grocery store and hardware store were closed for the near future. We figured the same would be true for any Propane delivery.
“We are down to the last 30 gallons in our 250 gallon tank. Roughly three days before we are left in the dark.”
“You’re in luck. We can get a guy out to you tomorrow.”
“Oh wow. Thank you!” I said, “you’re helping not only us keep the lights on, but we’re running out extension cords to our neighbors.”
The next day we thanked the gas truck driver for our delivery. It sounds silly, but it felt like Christmas morning with a wonderful surprise, waiting under the tree to see the gas truck arrive.

Tony was amazing! We coordinated this from 600 miles away. The only issue I have, the payment automatically came out of my account. I do have that setup like that, but I am supposed to get notified first. I also was not notified of when the install took place.
