Member Testimonials
Nicest members. Great classes.
Lots of diff programs abd everyone is nice.
I think the y feels like a family to me.
Friendly and helpful atmosphere. Like programs for all ages.
The many classes offered & the different variety of classes.
I like the the inclusivity of the classes.
I really enjoy the Steps workout program that was offered for 6-8 weeks with Dave. Please bring Steps back to the Central Y since it was so popular and I so enjoyed it (burning calories while having lots of fun!) while it was offered.
I really wish the Central Y would offer more BodyStep and/or Step classes during the weekend or in the late afternoons (5:30 p.m. and onward) since I know a lot of people (including me) would like to participate if they're offered.
the service
Aqua aerobics, & yoga mornings
Lots of swimming and exercise equipment.
Fun activity activities, good instructors, welcoming community
The YMCA offers a wide range of programs that promote health, wellness, and community connection, which I truly appreciate. Although my active schedule has kept me from attending the structured classes, I still benefit from the YMCA by coming in the morning to use the available exercise rooms. I often complete my workouts by following exercise videos on YouTube from my cell phone, which helps me stay consistent. In addition, I use the treadmill and the weight‑lifting room, focusing on weights under ten pounds to support my fitness goals. The variety of equipment and open spaces makes it easy to maintain a routine even without attending scheduled programs. I hope to adjust my schedule in the near future so I can participate in Aquafitness and floor‑exercise classes. These programs will allow me to expand my fitness journey and enjoy more of what the YMCA has to offer.
Love the mid morning aqua classes . Teachers are great!
Beth, Noriko and Jenneke are wonderful teachers! Their music choices help keep the beat!
Land exercises with Kelly and Camille are really worth the time as they are different but both work on developing muscles and balance.
Haven't tried them yet due to transportation issues
I like the family orientation and how friendly the gym is for all levels
There is a good range of group fitness classes and the overall sense of community at the Y is really strong. I do wish there were a bit more space for lifting and certain machines (like a hip thrust/glute drive)
Barre and Zumba with Hector
Many classes for seniors
YMCA is a great place if your suffering from depression or just trying to have a healthier lifestyle.
I've been going to the YMCA and it has helped me get out of my head by doing something productive that goes towards having a healthier lifestyle.
A variety of of exercises. Instructors are fun and professional
I love the workout room and the weight room and pool. I also like that you can sign up for a class with the app.
The only criticisms I have is I would like the weekend hours extended, especially in the summer so that families could stay longer.
I love the YMCA in central the alameda . the personal is very helpful and polite. love that they have classes for every age . plenty of equipment for everyone, indoor and outdoor pools . the people who attend here look very happy and make new people feel in home . I would recommend this YMCA to everyone

I love the Bodypump classes
Class variety.
I like the schedule. class and couches.
I like the variety of group exercise classes available. I also appreciate that classes are scheduled in the evening, so I can attend after work.
Great swimming pools offering lots of lanes for laps as well as playing areas for families.
In case I don't get asked what I don't like about the Central Y, I'll put that here. I am really frustrated with the pool closure issues with the outdoor pool. I can't understand why the other Bay Area YMCA's are able to manage the chemical issues with their pools, but Central Y isn't. I heard that Central had switched from liquid chemicals to powder/tablet chemicals. If this was a cost-cutting measure, this is not the place to cut corners. Please switch back. The masters group has already lost one swimmer to another club because of the frequent closures. I would not want to lose others. The Central pool is a great resource when it is functioning well.

The work out especially the spa, the people there are nice and always welcome.
