I never played hockey as a kid, but when we joined the YMCA and saw they had and ice center my son and I took ice skating lessons and then we heard about the learn to play hockey program how equipment was included for first time youth players we gave it a go. Chance is an amazing youth coach and my son quickly fell in love with hockey. Chance also runs a learn to play hockey program for adults so I too gave hockey a go for first time as at 42. Although Chance runs some adult skills programs the adult league doesn't have coaches, but I learned a lot from my son's coaching. I was never much of a sports player as a kid, but hockey is now my sport and 2 years later both of us are still playing all year round. I wished I had learned when I was a kid, but I think it is amazing that they have a great adult program too and although I would have been supportive of my son playing I don't think I would have been quite as understanding and supportive if I didn't have the opportunity to learn to play and love the sport myself.

This is our second season with the Lafayette Locomotive. If you were to ask my son where he wants to play and who he wants to play for he will unequivocally tell you that he wants to play for the Locomotive and their coaches. There is something to be said about culture at an organization, and during our time at various organizations we experienced constant negativity and limited development. The Locomotive do a tremendous job of providing a competitive hockey environment focused on development, but where they separate themselves from their competitors is they offer a positive environment with a community feel that allows kids to feel at home. As a parent I cannot say enough about the value we get paying for our son to play for the Locomotive. To have a professional coach that is engaged and truly cares about each and every one of the players for the cost we pay is unbelievable. Any other organization would cost twice as much for less ice time and a parent coach. The Directors are by far the most involved of any leadership group we have experienced. We look forward to many more years with the organization their continued growth.
Friendly, lots of families, lots of fun events. Gracious staff.
Friendly and welcoming front desk staff. Choices of classes. Ease of reserving pickleball courts
Only complaint is that you don’t have Les Mills Body Pump equipment. I take Body pump elsewhere because of this
exercise equipment, classes and pool
It’s four minutes from my home by car and I can walk there in less than 30 minutes. Love the people I’ve met there. There is a variety of classes for me and the instructors are great.
Great personal trainer
Lots of workout equipment. The over head track is great.
The coaches are amazing! They care about the kids. They are always working so hard to make everything so great.
They work well with you to fit your needs and what you want to get out of the program. They offer all sorts of skill sessions and camps. The coaches are great. Both my boys love playing for the Locomotives.
I like the culture of the club- from coaches to parents and kids. There is a lot of kindness, respect, teamwork and an emphasis on good sportsmanship

it's the best!
We like that Lafayette YMCA youth hockey offers competitative hockey or recreational hockey for every age group so that the youth can participate in which ever grouping fits their skill set, time availability, and budget. The environment at the Y has been very friendly and welcoming!
Great coaches. Friendly atomosphere. The best youth hockey organization in Colorado.
Great coaching, limited travel, reasonable pricing
The focus on sportsmanship with kids and parents. The inclusiveness. Great leadership and support from Chris, Peter and Chance.
Good communication and instruction. Cohesive team. Excellent kids and parents. Right level of "serious" and "fun." Don't have to travel too far. My kid always wants to go and never wants to miss. Really good team/family environment.
The swimming lessons have been amazing! The instructors keep my kids engaged and are actually teaching them stroke basics. I have struggled to find a program to bridge the gap b/n swim survival basics and stroke improvement/swim team style sessions. Their lessons have been so helpful and have done just that!
My sons have learned valuable lessons regarding work ethic, dedication, and loyalty to teammates. Hockey is a unique sport due to the need to develop a skill set which is not required in any other sport. This requires extreme dedication and mental fortitude which in my opinion is not matched by any other sport. The program directors Peter Senja and Chris Eagles are great mentors and teachers in regard to the dedication and mental fortitude it takes to succeed in the sport of hockey. They have taken my sons from kids that had never been on a pair of skates, to competent and at times exceptional players at their competition level.
I believe these lessons will help them succeed as they become young adults by understanding what it takes to become successful at whatever path they choose in life.
Great coaching staff and parent community.
The pickelball class is great.
