No opportunities for every body

Sportclips can be a great starting place for new stylist or anyone who needs to get back into the grove of cutting hair. However, I would not recommend it for someone who is serious about building a long-term career in the hair or barbering industry.
Hours are not guaranteed and there is often unclear communication about why hours are being cut. It can feel like these issues are used against stylist instead of being addressed directly. Management still seems to operate with a very old school mindset which is not effective for newer stylist entering the industry.
There is also a lot of micromanaging and upper management often seems to prioritize difficult stylist over long-term, reliable employees. I have personally been cursed at and screamed at by customers including male clients who made very crude comments towards me. When I expressed that I was uncomfortable opening alone because of the aggressive or inappropriate behavior I was told I needed to open alone anyway. That made me feel like my safety and comfort were not being taken seriously.
When I mentioned I was interested in management I was told I would need to perform manager level tasks in order to be considered I said I would be happy to do that once I was being paid as a manger but i did not feel comfortable taking on manager responsibilities without manager pay. I was then told I would never work in management.
Overall I think there is a lot of favoritism from management. While sport clips may be a decent place for a new stylist to start I would not recommend someone who wants to be taken seriously or build a sustainable career at sport clips.
