The Bremerton Family Y is a home away from home. As a heavier woman I don’t feel uncomfortable being there. The staff are wonderful and welcoming and while I wish the childcare was available on fridays, their childcare is great.
Friendships
In general I’ve been very happy with my experience at the Bremerton Y. However, it is disappointing to see you promoting a weight loss program/diet. There are so many other ways to encourage a healthy lifestyle: finding enjoyable exercise/movement, nutrition, taking care of mental health, having a supportive community, etc. So why is the number on a scale being emphasized here? Not only does this program risk triggering those recovering from eating disorders and discouraging folks living in larger bodies who already have to experience a barrage of stigma & shame from society on a daily basis, but I find it completely at odds with the inclusive, community-focused environment I thought the Y was trying to create.
Everyone is very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and included.

Swam this morning 1/19 at 7:30am Lane 3. I noticed a medium to large "flake" of the new pool bottom ready to lift off. Lane 3, on the decline-downhill right next to the lane line, about half way down. There is a palm sized "patch" that looks repaired and a long the downward side is the flake starting to lift up off the floor. It's about twice as large as the patch. Since the pool resurface is less than a month old, I would hope there is a warranty on the resurface. I pointed it out to the life guards
