I love the egym and the aqua classes. The staff are also very friendly and professional and are happy to assist you with anything you might need. There is so much to do at Hal Welch Area YMCA, and they are always adding extra things you can do if you would like. You will never get bored there for sure.
It's extended hours, kind counselors, and fun activities.
We have had a wonderful experience at the after school program held at Minoa Elementary.
Well equipped, well staffed.
There are many different activities to choose to participate in.
My trainer Izi!!
My time is always easy to find machines
egym and pickleball
It was my first time here. The only thing I would change is to lower the temperature in the Egym room or add more fans. There was one fan in there, but it was still quite warm.
The exercise classes.
I mainly attend the Fayetteville, NY location and every single staff member I’ve encountered over the past few years I’ve been going are always so friendly, kind and smiling. The facility is very clean and I love how much the Y has to offer. I wish it wasn’t as expensive as it is but I’d rather pay the price for the Y and get all it has to offer rather than go to a less expensive gym and not get the same quality I get at the Y. I’m very happy with my experience there thus far and it’s been around 3 years now I think.
Pool and steam room
Needs updating & improved guest options otherwise it’s great!
There are many good classes for Seniors (like me). There are classes for all levels. The equipment is plentiful, varied. The Y is clean and well taken care of. We are very lucky that so many people worked together to make this happen for the community.
The variety of exercise options. It would be great if there were Tai Chi classes.
Nice
My instructor for Strengh in Women, Marisa, is excellent! She is very knowledgeable, friendly and energetic. She explains the excercises, provides alternatives for those that have limitations, and creates class plans that challenge us but are still within our abilities. I like the format of the class, the small group size, and location away from the activites of the facility. I also love tailored and progressive workout that the EGym provides and hope that it will be added to the Manlius location as well. Also, The staff at the member desk have all been very helpful and friendly as well. I haven't taken advantage of other classes yet but plan to as my schedule slows down.
I love so many things about Hal Welsh. It’s a beautiful facility with the nicest staff who work there. I am always greeted by my name when I walk through the door by one of the staff. The staff are always cheery and bright with a smile on their face.
As an Active Older Adult, I am impressed with the activities and programs offered at Hal Welsh. I just enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving lunch today with my Senior friends. It was wonderful to sit and share a meal together. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful AOA Coordinator who cares about us older adults at Hal Welsh East Area Family YMCA.
Very friendly helpful trainers.
Great machines and wonderful people using them.
The wide range of facilities, programs and the friendly staff.
Friendly people (mostly)
Excellent equipment
Great Staff. Good programs. Love the Walking Club.
Vibe.
Clean. Easy going staff. .
the Y is a great place, but since you are asking, here are my observations:
1. Please return the plate holders to the Hammer machines on the second floor!!! It is really inefficient to have to walk all over to get plates, especially for the machines that are far away from the two plate racks. Also, we really need a third weight rack in the upstairs area; 2 plate racks is just not enough to service the many Hammer machines upstairs.
Since the removal of the weight holders from the various Hammer machines, the plates become concentrated on a few of the machines such as the Smith Rack or the seated trap. Also the two plate racks are filled right the the edge of the bars where it is really easy for the plate to slip off and on to one's toes.
Overall, the situation with the plates in the upstairs area is really unworkable!!
2. Someone needs to make a conscious effort to organize the placement of the weight machines in both the upstairs and downstairs weight rooms. One must actually use the machine and observe how they parts swing and move around the neighboring machines. Here are some examples:
a. Downstairs: The chest/back machine is too close to the dip / pullup machine such that when a person is swinging out the chest bars, one cannot access the weight selection key for the dip machine. Just inches away from getting hit...
b. Downstairs: the squat racks are too close together such that one cannot put weights on the bars while a person is using the squat rack next door.
c. Upstairs: the leg extension and leg curl machines are in awkward positions.
d. Upstairs: The repositioning of the cable machine is not good as one often must stand directly in the walkway when using the machine.
e. Use of the Hammer Bench Press machine conflicts with people coming up the stairway and rounding the corner.
Clean, friendly staff. Are greeted warmly.
Taking boxing classes with Omar. Omar is a very knowledgeable coach. Excellent approach to learning. I’m learning a lot from him.
I find the sense of community is strong, the classes I attend are enjoyable, rewarding and led by skilled teachers. The facilities are mostly well kept and in good shape.
Excellent fitness instructors

We're very happy to have our kids included in the Y's after-school tween program. The staff are all wonderful, and our kids feel included in the activities and enjoy going each day. thank you!
