Classes & the atmosphere.
1) please bring back towels, bleach kills covid
2) in RE to the TRX classes, please do bring them back and put them in a different room. The old room (Tellepsen location) was way too crammed and people were always turned away because class was filled to capacity and the people that did get to be a part of the class, we weren't able to do all workouts because of limited space. PLEASE use a larger room. I understand a lot of the gym goers are downtowners, but starting a class at 5:00 p.m. is insane, walk to the gym, change, etc. takes time. Classes should start at 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
3) please bring back the coffee in the mornings. I really enjoyed the coffee prior to a workout. Caffeine is a natural preworkout.
Thank you! please email me at Email address removed with any questions.
Zumba is my favorite. Victor and Vanessa are fantastic.
I mainly use the fitness center. Lots of equipment and friendly employees. Having access to a whirlpool and steam room is a special treat.
I use the Y primarily for the equipment and closeness to my Home. I am glad that the Y offers the programs and other activities as many of my friends utilize them.
ease of scheduling, clean facilities
Body pump is the best class. Love all the instructors! The app is so easy to use and book classes. Love everything about the Y.
Great instructors for group classes, especially core, Pilates, and yoga at Trotter.
Above those is the swimming pool at Trotter! So clean, may be a little too warm for master swimmers, and so well maintained.
And above all is the garden at Trotter. It Rocks! The word should be spread to all members that it is there to volunteer and have great green exercise. Tasty too!
So while I have your attention, one thing that I keep asking for, is hot water for women over 5’8”, to shower. The three showers for us are lukewarm and have been for over a year. I’ve asked and asked If some of the very hot water from the eight other showers for shorter women can be diverted for the many of us who either stoop to use short showers, or really don’t like to take showers in lukewarm water and grumble.
The variety
I love the Forever Well Programs.
I really like the range of classes and the variety of times. Everyone is wonderful and I really like the teachers!
I do wish that the non-competitive pickleball would also be available outside of working hours. Joining a regular pickleball time can be frustrating for the the experts when they get a new player against them. Someone I know was told to only sign up for the non competitive class based on her skill level.
Additionally, it would be nice to see the activities that cost an additional fee on the registration list. I understand it cannot be set up the same because people cannot register for the class online. That said, it would be nice to know when they are offered. The system can stop at the point of "signing up" for a class. Instead it can say contact the YMCA for reservations. It is just hard to know when those options are available (TRX, Pilates reformer etc...)
It is always clean and fresh smelling, the staff are friendly and helpful, it is big and airy so there is distance between you and the other guys, excellent equipment, room for floor work, the patrons are friendly and cordial, the hour work for me.

I'm grateful for working out at Houston YMCA's for 39 years. I suffered a heretic car accident 12/26/81. Life flighted to Herman in medical center in a coma. After coming out of come 6 weeks later I transferred to heading injury hospital until July 1982. Out-patented for remainder of year. In January 1983 went to TLC in Galveston for the year were I developed a training program to keep my INDEPENSE. When I arrived home to parents house , FM 1960. Ordered a 3 wheel cycle from Sears catalog. Joined Ponderosa now called North Harris Co YMCA. Registered at UHD in 1987 and joined Downtown Y. Bought my condo in 1999, Oaks of Woodlake. Starting working out at Post Oak Y in 2006 after I bought a car. "Devotion N' Motion" was my main work-out. Loved the Y and have collected donations from people, mostly from Enron employees totaling over $40,000.GOD is my drive, YMCA my co-pilot..
There's ALOT more detail, but I need to work at Kroger in a few hours. Lunch time.
It is a healthy place to exercise and enjoy the fellowship of members and staff.
Want more in person classes to come back. Miss the interaction and information that we used to get at Trotter.
You have really good instructers.Laura is the best instructor.I recently moved and I would not have been strong enough to lift all the heavy things if it wasn't for the years I have spent working out at the YMCA.
