My son went in for math tutoring. Was working on math corrections to resubmit homework. Tutor did not check his work and he resubmit the homework still with incorrect answers. An hour of tutoring completely wasted. I’m unsure what if anything happened during that session.

My daughter’s math grades have improved and she no longer has anxiety on the days leading up to tests.

My granddaughter has approved a lot.

It would be great if the website showed parents hours used and in general gave more detail. A better explanation of what the study skills program is and how it will help my child grow in confidence would be fabulous. My son was caught up in math and after being reassessed it was suggested he switch to study skills. I would like more clarification on this program. When I was sold the package, I was told twice my son was very bright and if he was caught up sooner than the 70 hours I purchased I could get save the sessions for future or get my money back. He was caught up after approximately 30 sessions and when I inquired about getting my money back for the remaining 40 I was told told there are no refunds. I no longer see the value of sending my child there. If I could get someone to explain the value, and how study skills will help him when he reassessed at a 1285 in literacy and 5.6 in math when he should’ve been at 5.7, it would be much appreciated. I can barely afford to pay for this to begin with, and if it is something that will not be beneficial I would like to request my money back for his remaining sessions. At this point if feel I was talked into into buying more sessions than he needed when it wasn’t necessary, and now I’m being told I am stuck and I hate feeling this way.

My son has been frustrated lately that he is repeating concepts that he says he knows. I know this is part of the program, but its causing him to fight us on attending because he doesn't feel he's getting anything out of it.

We asked at the last tutoring session to work on graphs and money and while the instructor worked with another student they had my child use the iPad for the full time and did not work on graphs or money. I can have my child sit on an iPad at home.

Please I would appreciate if the schedule is steady and consistent. Let me know when the lesson is ending or starting in summer. Thanks.

We really like Tim as both the director and as a tutor. The other tutors are good too. My daughter likes the place but she doesn’t like taking g the practice tests. I remind her that the tests show the tutors how to best help her. She is chatty and social an benefits from the hands on approach.

We've had a great experience and will most likely come back ourselves if we need more services.

We have had about 3 weeks and so far it’s going as expect, Tim has been very welcoming and I’m looking forward to watching the work progress.

Nothing was ever communicated to myself or my husband from day one. After our child's assessment we paid over the phone to start services immediately. We were under the impression it was one-on-one tutoring. We were not aware that the tutor could have two to three pupils per session. Nor were we made aware that during our child 1 hour session, the other students in that group could be tutored on other subjects. My son is only 8 years old so instead of leaving him at the facility I would wait in the waiting area. He only attended four sessions before I requested a refund. During his last session him and another child or being tutored together. My son needed assistance with reading and writing while the other child had problems with math. Almost the WHOLE HOUR I could hear the instructor tutoring the other child on math while I heard very interaction with my son. I felt like my son wasn't getting the attention or structure that he needed. I can understand tutoring multiple students in the same subject. It makes no sense to me how you can properly to tutor multiple students in MULTIPLE subjects and think they're getting the assistance they need. I understand they do majority of the work on an iPad -which is what they insisted my son was doing at that point in time. The struggles that my son has is that he can read very fast and independently however it doesn't retain what he's reading. SO HAVING HIM SIT AND READ INDEPENDENTLY ON AN IPAD DOESN'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP HIM. Also after requesting information about his progress I found out his assessment wasn't even completed properly (per the director). I requested that he have a writing assessment as well as a reading assessment when I spoke to the call center. When his assessment appointment came, I met with the director Express all of my concerns and told him exactly what I wanted (two sessions a week one for reading one for writing). Neither the call center nor the director had my son signed up for the proper assessment (which is only brought to my attention when I asked for a refund). I was never shown any type of syllabus or given any explanation of how the process works or what to expect. When I asked to be shown this information, the director advised the reading syllabus was very structured and showed me how they did a different unit every week. Well the writing there was no structure to it and they just worked out of a book (which looks like something I could have ordered from scholastic.com). Next, I asked about how the app works and how to see my son's progress. The director flat out told me "he didn't know and if I could figure it out to let him know". Every time my son went to the center there was a different teacher, never the same teacher for the same subject. I understand he could have a different teacher for reading as for writing. I was under the impression he would have the same teacher for reading every week and then whoever his writing teacher that would be the same for every week as well. With covid going on, I thought putting him in the structured environment like Sylvan would be the answer. However it the complete opposite of the reputation I expected. The director of the facility was very respectful and very personable, however, we feel as if he was stretching himself thin. He was also trying to tutor a lot of the blocks as they were short on staff which I understand could be a big part of the problem. He did offer to upgrade to one-on-one tutoring for more money but we declined respectfully. It was just such an awful experience. We fell in the dark the entire time at any time we asked a question those questions couldn't be answered appropriately. We obviously were out of money for services rendered (for four sessions), not to mention the time and gas we wasted going out there as it was a good 40 minutes from our house.

Nick really felt that the work he did on his reading and writing skills was very worthwhile. The study skills boot camp, however, was geared to a younger student (Nick is a rising senior) and covered more basic and general areas pertaining to high school that he would have preferred. We were looking for focused guidance on how to approach school and class work, how to take reading and class notes, how to prepare for exams, how to research and write essays, etc. So the tutoring was great, the boot camp not so much.

Althea is getting more confident in her reading.she is reading alittle more asked questions and willing to try to sound out words.

you canceled the camp

In two weeks, roughly half of the scheduled lessons were canceled or changed. Twice we were left uninformed and waiting for a teacher that never showed up.

My daughter has always loved school; she’s always been known for coming home only to play school until bedtime. The last year of either being completely virtual or this year as a combination, 2 days in class and 3 virtual, have taken quite the toll. I am a nurse so my hours over the past year have been anything but helpful and encouraging to her learning needs. She’s also proven to be more of a one on one or in person learner, which definitely took a toll on her. My girl lost interest and motivation not to mention knowledge and I honestly thought she had a learning disability. Then she started at Sylvan. In the almost month she’s been attending, her enthusiasm has returned, her drive, her willingness to learn, but mostly her smile. The teachers at school have noticed a better understanding and improvement of grades. I’m beyond thankful for Sylvan and especially Christine for taking the time to help her reach these little milestones!!

We love Sylvan! We were happy with our experience with the previous owner, but the team really seems to go above and beyond since the change in ownership. Thanks so much for helping our kids in such a kind and caring way!
