What do you like about our products and services?

Having just cancelled our gym membership after 10 years, through sheer frustration at the service and quality of the facilities, at our previous gym, it was a breath of fresh air to come to Copley this week. We did a trial there a few months ago, when we began looking at gym alternatives and were very impressed. We hadn't been since before you had your re-model and I have to say, what you have achieved is phenomenal. From a personal point of view, as a swimmer, it would be nice if your pool was revamped as it is looking very tired and dated now, in comparison to the rest of your ultra modern facilities but the sheer joy of being able to swim in proper divided off lanes, with plentry of space, at my own speed was just amazing. The pool temperature was perfect for swimming and I thoroughly enjoyed my swim, for the first time in months. Really appreciated that the manager/supervisor dropped everything to go and show me around because I didn't know where I was going. Will be back.

We only use the swimming pools, in particular lane swimming. We appreciate the number of sessions available at Copley.

Lots of variety, something for everyone of all ages, good value packages deals, very friendly and very helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble, everywhere is meticulously clean and well maintained, good opening times to suit workers, non-workers, seniors, mums and toddlers etc. and lots of different classes and expert tuition at all levels

ACTIVE COPLEY FEEDBACK (JUNE 2017)

For my latest feedback, I'm going to mainly focus on 'variety'.

DRY SIDE GYM

Brilliant! You'll be hard pushed to find better facilities anywhere in the country. The Synrgy 360 area is particularly good as it gives people such a vast range of options when creating their own circuits / training regime.

DRY SIDE FITNESS CLASSES

Copley has a great range of fitness classes. One improvement that could be made is a greater variation of lesson plan content, i.e. use a different lesson plan each week (as was the case up until a couple of years ago). This doesn't bother me personally as I do a number of classes with different instructors and thereby get the benefit of the variety this offers. But a number of people just do the same class each week - with the same instructor - who invariably uses the same lesson plan.

Less and less cardio exercise seems to feature in Circuit Training / Tone & Shape / Strength & Conditioning classes, with the emphasis now being very much on strength based routines. Tone & Shape has definitely fallen victim to Les Mills Body Pump and the stereotypical approach they adopt to their lesson plans.

A typical Circuit Training class now comprises of 10 stations and we usually do 2 laps with a short cardio blast at half time. In years gone by there would have been 15 to 16 stations (some of which changed on the 2nd lap to give even greater variety), plus, there would be a cardio blast after every station on the 2nd lap. Thus, you can see how the variety has diminished.

The fitness instructors are great - they just need to go back to using their own creative license when writing their lesson plans - as was the case in the pre-Les Mills days.

SWIMMING POOLS

Terrific range of activities for all age groups. Great variety of lesson plan content which is both challenging and engaging. A special mention should go to Will Hobbs for his efforts with the Ducklings and Swim Fit classes. Customers regularly give positive feedback about his standards of coaching and organisation. The Swim Fit brigade have commented on just how much their fitness, stamina and swimming ability has improved.

Copley is also one of the best pools in the land for lane swimming, with options available every day. It works best when 2 lanes are available (fast & slow), although I appreciate that pool time/space is limited since the closure of Dukinfield Baths. Nevertheless, here's a few suggestions where minor improvements could be made:

1) Leave the backstroke flags up permanently. They are an essential safety and training aid for lane swimming.

2) Leave the Speedo clock turned on permanently. It is a useful training aid for lane swimming.

3) The current team of 'younger' lifeguards are not as vigilant as their previous colleagues, where pool management is concerned. Very simple tasks that are no longer carried out include; a) widening a 'busy' lane; b) requesting swimmers to stay in a lane of their own pace; c) requesting swimmers not to obstruct the lane.

4) Customers find it particularly frustrating when a whole lane is taken out for a personal 'one-on-one' teaching lesson. This is particularly apparent at weekends when, at certain times, the lane often stands empty. Group lessons are great and form an essential part of the programme. But 'one-on-one' personal lessons should not be scheduled at the same time as lane swimming. They simply cause too much ill feeling amongst the rest of the customer base.

5) The 08:30-09:00 shutdown (Mon-Fri) is a bit of a nuisance. Customers often query why it takes place, given the pool usually re-opens 09:00-10:00. I tell them it is probably a scheduled staff break, but I would be interested to know why it does close for 30 minutes? If the pool could stay open, that would be even better.
